Alderney, the third largest of the Channel Islands, lies just 8 miles off the Normandy coast of France, and is the nearest to the mainland of Britain. The island has owed allegiance to the English Crown for over 900 years.

Alderney is some 3.1/2 miles (5 km) long and 1.1/2 miles (3 km) at its widest point, with a population of 2,400. The capital, the small town of St Anne, is the shopping centre catering for most modern-day needs. There is a wide variety of excellent restaurants giving good value for money.

Amongst its many qualities Alderney is a relaxed, safe and friendly island with a great deal to offer, including a quiet, stable way of life amidst beautiful surroundings and enjoying a generally warmer climate than that of the U.K.

Alderney is twinned with the Normandy village of Beaumont-Hague which is just across the Channel. www.agglo-lahague.fr
